Thinking about this while playing startrek online. now i know where continuing new stories and everything dont get me wrong this game gives the story life again but are these new movies going to go side and side with the game story or are they going to do something stupid and make a few movies stop and leave the story open. anyway just another loyal star trek fan concerned about the st universe?

I think the idea is that the new movies are in a different universe due to... quantum.

Or so I've heard, just to avoid angering the hard core trek fans.

They're operating in 2 timelines: the 'prime', which would be canon prior to the new film, and the new timeline, which starts with the new film. The 2 timelines can interact, but they are independent.

They have been? I thought that every single time travel story was generally a continuity nightmare?
