Well Sylar lost all his powers to at one time and if you pay enough attention there are alot of explanations. His power is to have what is explained as a *universal understanding of all*. Originally this was carried out by studying his victims brains, then it turned out that he doesn't need to do this, it can obtain the abilities through empathy and understanding. When Sylar became ill he lost his powers, bar his telekenesis because he had empathy with the first guy he killed.
The problem is, if the good guys have major powers then in the end there to much, like Time Travel, Sylar can easy be beaten by Hiro's power but if Sylar could time travel it'd end up as to big a story to control.
If you ask me, they need to kill Hiro off for being to powerful and hey, he was funny but he can't just be doing the slapstick duo role for the rest of the series, plus he has no real ties to the other characters in the show.
I totally disagree. Heroes NEEDS Hiro, without him the series would just be too dark. I understand what Sylar's power's are, but what I'm saying is that there was never any good reason to change his power from what it was originally. He was MORE than an adequate opponent for the Heroes. But a lot of the setups are just plain stupid. For instance, he gains powers from people we never meet, and a lot of the powers we DO see him acquire (from Clint Howard for instance) he never seems to use. Obviously, Sylar is a teleporter now, so if they're going to pay somebody like Clint Howard to make a cameo, why not just make HIM the teleporter? I just think they completely mismanaged his character immediately after he met his father. I realize that Sylar is, or was, a popular character in the beginning, but they've taken him as far as he can go. They're using him as a crutch now. He needs to go!
